The Ontario Patient Reported Outcomes of Symptoms and Toxicity Research Unit, On-PROST, was created in 2011 in response to the need to collect Patient Reported Outcomes (PROs) uniformly across multiple cancers, and across all stages of the disease.

Our overall goal is to improve the patient’s experience of cancer, through the perspective of an improved research infrastructure.

On-PROST will develop generic and disease-specific PROMs, focusing initially on lung, head and neck, gastro-esophageal, pancreatic, breast and prostate cancers. Small, local pilot studies will be performed by our research team across key centres already engaged in developing PROMs (Princess Margaret Hospital, Sunnybrook Health Science Centre and Queens’ University).

We plan to develop generic, disease and research-specific PROMs, pilot test them using pen-and-paper systems, and eventually apply computer-adaptive technology.

On-PROST’s goal is to concretely impact on cancer control and policy across the province of Ontario, within the next five years.

On-PROST is an Applied Cancer Research Unit of Cancer Care Ontario, with funds provided by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
